As we reach the halfway point of the season, we sat down with manager Wasim Khan to discuss the team's performance, challenges, and ambitions for the remainder of the campaign. In this exclusive interview, Wasim reflects on the season so far, outlines aspirations for the second half, and highlights key players to watch out for.
On How the Season Has Gone So Far
Reflecting on the team's progress, Khan acknowledges that while the squad has shown promise, consistency has been a major hurdle.
"We obviously wanted more points at this stage and right now we would like to be higher, challenging for the title or the playoffs at least, but we haven't had the consistency and it has cost us," Khan shared.
Despite the inconsistency, Khan is quick to highlight the immense potential within the team. "Look, it's a young team, at times the average age is 19 but it's a very talented group, and the quality of play at times, has been just as good as anything the club has ever produced."
With so many young players gaining valuable experience, the long-term prospects remain bright.
Aspirations for the Second Half of the Season
Looking ahead, Khan is optimistic about the team's potential for the second half of the season. While there have been challenges, the spirit within the squad remains positive and focused on growth.
"We're very positive and in training, there are very good signs. We'll benefit from the fact the group has been together for 6 months, and we want to get as many points as possible," he said.
Khan believes that as long as there is still a chance to finish first or secure a playoff spot, the team must fight for it. "I believe as long as you have a mathematical chance of finishing first or arriving in the playoffs, the obligation of the club is to fight & believe in that."
His confidence in the squad's resilience is evident. "I know we have a dressing room that will do exactly that, so if we can be consistent, we can be very positive."
Incoming & Outgoings: Transfer Outlook
While the club is unable to make mid-season transfers due to the league's rules, Khan acknowledges that injuries have disrupted the team's rhythm. However, he feels the squad is now in a much more stable and cohesive state.
"Unfortunately, there is no transfer window at this level, and it's been quite turbulent due to the fact we had some serious injuries, but we feel now we have a settled squad that is growing in terms of cohesion every week," Khan explained.
Looking to the second half of the season, Wasim remains open to adding a player or two, but the primary focus will be on maintaining the team's stability. "Of course, we may add 1 or 2 coming into the second half of the season, but it's a much more settled outlook which should help with the consistency."
Exciting Players to Watch
One of the most exciting aspects of this season has been the emergence of young, talented players within the squad. Khan is particularly excited about the potential of the team's up-and-coming stars.
"In my opinion, we have some of the best talent at this level," he said. "If they work hard and stay together, they will elevate through the levels because if you see the way they play now, it's very encouraging already."
With young players already showing flashes of brilliance, Khan believes the future is bright for this group if they continue to develop and grow.
Final Thoughts
As the team prepares for the second half of the season, Wasim Khan remains optimistic about the progress the squad has made and the potential that lies ahead. With a talented and committed group, the goal is clear: build on the cohesion, maintain consistency, and push for as many points as possible.
"The key is consistency," Khan concluded. "If we can stay focused and consistent, there's no reason why we can't be very successful this season."
The second half of the season promises to be an exciting journey, and with the leadership of Wasim Khan and the drive of the players, the team remains determined to achieve their goals.
