Thurlow Nunn Division 1 South

NW London 0-2 Hutton

Harry Rawlins 28' (Hutton)
Harry Rawlins 87' (Hutton)

NWL hosted 3rd-placed Hutton at Coles Park in a close contest, with a controversial red card proving to be a key moment in the match. Hutton started brightly, creating the first few opportunities and keeping NWL on the back foot.

With several key midfielders and forwards still sidelined, NWL manager Wasim Khan opted for a back three, bringing Vasquez back into the lineup. However, it was Hutton who struck first, with Harry Rawlins cutting in from the right and driving a low shot past Charlie Casey to give the visitors the lead in the 28th minute.

Despite the early setback, NWL responded positively and began pushing for an equalizer. They created significant chances towards the end of the first half, with both Tryczynski and Krasniqi missing opportunities. A deflected cross even rattled Hutton's woodwork, but NWL couldn't find the breakthrough before halftime.

The game took a dramatic turn early in the second half when NWL's Burcea was shown a controversial red card for a sliding tackle that the referee deemed dangerous, just three minutes after the break. With NWL down to 10 men, the momentum could have swung entirely in Hutton's favor, but the Gorillas continued to fight.

NWL nearly capitalized on a huge opportunity when a mis-hit Hutton back pass allowed Tryczynski through on goal, but he failed to convert with only the goalkeeper to beat. Both teams continued to create chances, with Hutton wasteful in front of goal, giving NWL hope of salvaging something from the match.

However, in the final minutes, Rawlins secured the win for Hutton, curling a shot from inside the box to make it 2-0. NWL came close to a consolation in injury time when James Allen hit the bar, but Hutton held on for the clean sheet.

In the end, NWL will have plenty of complaints about the red card decision, which proved to be a pivotal moment in a game that was otherwise very close. The Gorillas are left wondering what might have been if the game had stayed 11 vs. 11.
