Thurlow Nunn Division 1 South

NW London 1-1 Barkingside

Luke Easton 12' (Barkingside)
Bernardo De Quadros 33' (NW London)

We kicked off our 24-25 campaign with a draw at home to Barkingside.

A contest which had seen both sides get the better of each other in the previous seasons and finish next to each other in the League last season, they could not be separated after 90 minutes.

In a Friday night spectacle, it was clear from the outset Barkingside had come with a game plan of frustrating NW London and it seemed to be paying off.

After a slow start from NW London, Barkingside capitalised on a mishap from goalkeeper Vlad Levchuk, as he mistimed his attempt to collect a long ball and Luke Caston lobbed it home.It soon bring NWL into action with Valentin Bruce pressing and testing the side keeper once put through and Hugo Javaloyes curling an effort pushed away from the goal.

In the 33rd minute, NWL got their breakthrough in trademark fashion, Juan Araque combining with 2 other players and finding Bernardo De Quadros in space who drove home inside the box for a goal on debut.

NWL finished the half strongly and Nathaniel Binney slide just wide after beating the keeper to the ball, put through by De Quadros.

The second half, saw an even more reserved Barkingside sit deeper. In truth, NWL struggled with Side's solidarity and only half chances were made for either side.

Emmanuel Okoko went close with a free kick & Allen also mis-cued a set-piece delivered into the Side box. Barkingside's best moments came from strikes from long range but none really troubled Levchuk.

In the end, a game of a few clear cut chances, a draw was probably the right outcome.
